Footovision, the French sports tech company which specializes in advanced data and analytics for professionals in the football industry, has partnered with the Football Association of Finland since the beginning of 2023. This collaboration enables the company to support the development of the Finnish national team by providing cutting-edge performance data on a customizable analysis platform, Coachvision.
During our last visit to the FA headquarters in Helsinki, we obtained a reference from Henri Lehto, the Head of Performance Analysis.
What are the main challenges faced by technical staff and performance analysts in their daily work?
The main idea of performance analysis is to provide accurate data for the coaching staff and for the team to help, for example, in the decision-making processes and thus, to enhance the performance. As football is a complex sport, you need optimal tools to gather all the relevant information from not only the on-the-ball-events but also from the off-the-ball-events happening during the matches. Data is also really valuable for us to monitor player development: we want to improve constantly and see if the KPI’s we’ve selected show that there’s been development, or to point out the things we need to improve in the upcoming matches. Of course, as Finland is a small nation and we don’t have the resources to run big analysis departments, we need help in the data production process to really gather all the relevant data and information easily.
Why did you decide to partner with Footovision?
Footovision provides us the possibility to measure not only the ball events, but also to gather data from non-ball events and tracking data with one simple solution, in a cost-effective way. I also like the possibility to fully customize your metrics and dashboard so that you can actually evaluate things which matter the most for your teams.
What do you expect from this collaboration?
So far, I’ve been really happy with the help and guidance that the staff at Footovision have provided to us when creating our own metrics and dashboards. I look forward to further developing the tools and metrics with them to provide us even more information and knowledge in the future. Of course, the main target is always to be successful on the pitch and I’m happy that Footovision can help us to achieve our goals in the future.
